I believe that discrimination and racial hate crimes, especially those that are aimed towards people of Asian descent, can only be terminated by means of mutual effort from both the citizenry and the government. Politicians must not turn a blind eye to these injustices and instead focus on legislating policies that can alleviate and address this issue. At the same time, civilians must strive to be vigilant during these trying times. We can do this by speaking up and intervening in racially-motivated violences, by donating in rehabilitation communities and rescue organizations if we can, and by refraining to scapegoat Asians (or any innocent civilian for that matter). More than suppressing the spread of the coronavirus, we must also stop the virus of hate, prejudice, and violence from contaminating individuals and communities.
